Peekskill to Hold First Public Workshop on Oct. 30 for the Downtown Revitalization Initiative

The City of Peekskill will hold its first public workshop for its $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) award on Wednesday, October 30, at 7 p.m. at the Neighborhood Center at the Field Library, 4 Nelson Ave., Peekskill.

The community is encouraged to attend these workshops and share their project ideas.

In August, Peekskill was selected by the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council to receive the award from New York State through the DRI.

Marsha Gordon, President and CEO of the Business Council of Westchester, is proud to serve on the Regional Economic Development Council, which voted on Peekskill as the winning community.

“Peekskill’s $10 million grant aligns perfectly with the BCW’s ongoing initiative to promote the revitalization of Westchester’s urban centers,” said Gordon. “Peekskill’s plan will build on its beautiful waterfront and will enable the city to strengthen its offerings in tourism, the arts, media and light manufacturing that help to create jobs and training opportunities for a range of skill and wage levels.”

The approximately six-month DRI planning process is guided by a Local Planning Committee (LPC) of representatives from City government, community organizations, local businesses, and local residents.

The first LPC meeting was on October 16, 2019, and the LPC will continue to meet regularly until the plan is completed in March 2020. The meetings are working sessions for the LPC, but they are open to the public. LPC meetings are planned on the third Wednesdays of every month (through March) from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the Neighborhood Center at the Field Library (4 Nelson Avenue).

A second public workshop for the DRI will be held in December 2019 or January 2020, and a final public workshop will be held in February 2020.
