Fordham Westchester at 40

The Business Council strongly believes that a talented and educated workforce is vital to our region’s economic development. Westchester County is fortunate to have its share of excellent colleges and universities. One of the county’s prized institutions is Fordham Westchester, which celebrated its 40th anniversary this week with a reception at its West Harrison campus. This week Fordham Westchester also celebrated Fordham University’s 175th anniversary and the 100th anniversary of its Graduate Schools of Social Service and Education. Among the guests were alumnus Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino and BCW president and CEO Marsha Gordon.

While Fordham has only been in Westchester for 40 years, it has done much to boost educational excellence as well as economic development. Harrison Mayor Ron Belmont who spoke to the crowd of more than 150 said Fordham’s move to Westchester Avenue from its Marymount Campus in 2008 spurred many other businesses to relocate to the area.

During the event, the graduate schools presented Community Leadership Awards to 12 Westchester partners.
