New York State Opens Applications for More Than $62 Million in Housing Funding
New York State is making more than $62 million available to help communities expand access to safe, affordable and accessible housing across the state.
The new funding opportunity, administered through New York State Homes and Community Renewal, will support local governments and nonprofit organizations working to improve existing homes, assist first-time homebuyers, help older adults and veterans remain safely in their homes, and address critical housing needs for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers.
The funding is part of Gov. Kathy Hochul’s $25 billion, five-year statewide Housing Plan, which aims to create or preserve 100,000 affordable homes.
Programs included in the latest funding round include:
NYS HOME – $20 million: Supports the purchase and rehabilitation of single-family homes, down payment assistance, replacement of deteriorated mobile and manufactured homes, and rental assistance for income-eligible households.
HOME Homebuyer Development – $10 million: Provides resources for the substantial rehabilitation or new construction of small-scale, single-unit housing developments that will ultimately be sold to eligible homebuyers.
Access to Home – $5 million: Helps finance accessibility improvements that allow individuals with disabilities to live safely and independently in their homes.
Access to Home for Heroes – $3 million: Provides similar accessibility assistance specifically for veterans with disabilities.
Access to Home for Medicaid Members – $1.5 million: Supports modifications to residential properties to improve accessibility for Medicaid members with disabilities.
Mobile and Manufactured Home Replacement – $4 million: Helps eligible homeowners replace deteriorated mobile or manufactured homes located on property they own with new manufactured, modular or site-built housing.
RESTORE – $4 million: Assists older New Yorkers with urgent home repairs and the correction of code violations that could jeopardize their health, safety or ability to remain in their homes.
Community Development Block Grant Program – $15 million: Provides resources for local initiatives that rehabilitate owner-occupied single-family homes and improve or install residential infrastructure serving low- and moderate-income households. Additional opportunities are available for community planning, economic development and projects addressing imminent threats.
For the Business Council of Westchester, investments that expand housing opportunities are closely connected to the region’s continued economic strength. Access to attainable, quality housing helps communities retain workers, supports employers seeking to attract talent and contributes to a stronger and more sustainable local economy. As housing affordability remains a significant challenge throughout Westchester and the Hudson Valley, programs that help municipalities and nonprofit organizations strengthen the region’s housing stock can play an important role in supporting both residents and the business community.
