BCW Joins with Business Groups Seeking Changes to Burdensome Bill

The Business Council of Westchester has joined with 48 business organizations throughout New York State urging the State Legislature to add amendments to S.1034-B/A.2681-B (also known as the NY Hero Act) to lessen the burden the bill will have on businesses and not-for-profits.

“While the NY Hero Act is well intentioned, we are calling on our leaders in Albany to work together to modify certain aspects of the bill that could irreparably harm struggling businesses across the state. By engaging with all stakeholders to advance sensible amendments, including applying this measure only during a declared state of emergency, we can achieve a balance between workplace safety and economic recovery. Helping employers recover and rehire unemployed New Yorkers is more essential than ever. We look forward to working with legislators and leadership to address the flaws in this bill,” read a statement from the coalition of business groups.

The BCW, along with other statewide business organizations, recently joined with the National Federation of Independent Business in New York (NFIB) in a press conference voicing disappointment to the Assembly’s and Senate’s recent passage of the NY Hero Act citing the new burdens and complex regulations it would impose on small businesses who have been ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The BCW has outlined to the Assembly and Senate its strenuous opposition to the bill that would allow employees to obtain liens on their employees personal and real property if there are allegations of wage theft.
