National Architecture Firm Opens Mount Vernon Branch

BCW vice president John Ravitz recently attended the opening of a new branch office for McKissack & McKissack at 12 E. Third St. in Mount Vernon.

The Manhattan-based construction management and design company has more than 150 employees and it has managed an estimated $50 billion worth of projects over the last decade.

Cheryl McKissack Daniel leads the company with more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry. During her tenure as the company’s president and CEO, she has overseen more than 6,000 projects.

The firm’s landmark projects include the Museum of African American History and Culture on the National Mall, the MGM National Harbor Casino, and the Navy Pier Centennial Projects in Chicago. McKissack & McKissack also served as the architectural firm of record for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, DC.

McKissack Daniel is part of the fifth generation of her family to work in the design and construction field. McKissack & McKissack is a continuation of the nation’s oldest African American architectural firm and traces its beginnings to Moses McKissack, a master builder who was an emancipated slave.

After graduating from Howard University with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering, McKissack Daniel worked at Turner Construction and Dames & Moore. McKissack & McKissack is a New York state-certified Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprise.
