Ginsburg and Robert Martin Announce City Square development for White Plains

Martin Ginsburg announces a new mixed-use development proposal that would put shops, restaurants and luxury residences within steps of the White Plains train station.

A major development that unites two of Westchester’s legendary developers was unveiled this week. Martin Ginsburg announced the purchase of the Westchester Financial Center and his plans to work with BCW member Robert Martin to turn the office complex between Main Street and Martin Avenue into City Square, a pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use development with shops, restaurants and luxury residences.

The 571,000-square-foot landmark office complex would be rebranded as City Square, and would look to create a synergy with the new White Plains Transit District Strategic Plan to transform the Main Street gateway into a new pedestrian-friendly district.

“We are excited to see the White Plains Transit District moving along so rapidly,’’ said Marsha Gordon, President and CEO of the Business Council of Westchester. “The City Square proposal is tailor made for plans to create a gateway into the city’s downtown and brings White Plains’ vision for a walkable city one step closer.’’

The plan would also include the renovation of 50 Main Street, a 15-story, office building with a new lobby and an entire floor of amenities, including a fitness center, yoga studio, game room, lounge, and business center. The café will be expanded to include indoor and outdoor dining. The lobby will be extended, and new art and sculpture displays added to enliven the interiors.

“We look forward to working with Martin Ginsburg and the real estate and business communities to add to the positive momentum that has been driving recent demand in the downtown office market.  The tenants and office brokers are all very excited about what’s going to be happening at 50 Main and 1-11 Martine. It’s going to be very special,” said Robert Martin Principal Robert Weinberg.

City Square is just a block away from the White Plains Metro-North Station, which just began a $94 million restoration and offers 35-minute express service to Grand Central Station. It is also easily accessible to I-287 and Bronx River Parkway and a short walk to Federal and County courthouses, Galleria mall and the White Plains Transportation Center.

“Projects such as City Square align with the goals of the White Plains Transit District Strategic Plan, including activating the street with retail and restaurants, new residential units, improved pedestrian experience, placemaking, and proximity to mass transit. I am pleased to see it moving forward,” said White Plains Mayor Tom Roach.
