More Good News for Westchester’s Urban Centers

The revitalization of Westchester’s urban centers, a top priority of the BCW, continues to gain momentum with another major downtown project breaking ground, this time in the City of Yonkers.

RXR Realty, which just last week broke ground on a 28-story mixed-use building in downtown New Rochelle, put shovels in the ground this week for its $190 million Larkin Plaza mixed-use complex on the Yonkers waterfront. The complex is comprised of 439 residential units in two towers of 25 and 17 stories. There will also be 35,000 square feet of space for shops and restaurants. The complex will offer views of the Hudson River, Palisades cliffs, Manhattan skyline and the park along the daylighted Saw Mill River. A Transit Oriented Development, the Larkin Plaza complex is located just steps away from the Yonkers train station. Completion is expected in the fourth quarter of 2018.

“This is the type of development we need in Yonkers to meet a growing demand for people who want to live, work and play in a diverse and urban environment,” said Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano.

The Larkin Plaza project received a grant of $1 million both in 2014 and 2015 from the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council. “This project represents the kind of innovative development that is crucial to the revival of our urban centers. We congratulate RXR Realty and Mayor Spano on this important step forward in the revitalization of Yonkers,” said BCW President and CEO Marsha Gordon who serves on the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council.
