Special Screening & Panel Discussion of Film ’13th’ on 09/13
Have you heard about the groundbreaking documentary 13th? It’s a raw and honest exploration of the historical context and trajectory of what we have now identified as the injustice of mass incarceration. Whether you have heard about it, or even if you have seen it, our upcoming panel event offers a unique opportunity to become part of the local discussion with key stakeholders and local leaders about solutions for Westchester.
Join us on 9/13 to watch 13th and discuss its application for our community, and to celebrate the Youth Shelter’s 40 years of service to Westchester’s youth and learn how we intend to broaden our impact in the years to come… and how you can help.
About us:
The Youth Shelter Program of Westchester created and implemented a cost-effective way to remove local young people from the adult system of incarceration and truly rehabilitate them so they may become self-sufficient, contributing members of the community. While we praise and applaud the long overdue efforts of New York in Raising the Age of criminal responsibility form 15 to 18, the fight for youth in the system continues. Moving forward, we strive to provide a program for young women and continue to serve young men ages 18-21 as well as enhance and expand our re-entry program with the proven model we have developed over the past 40 years.
