Warren Buffet Goes Home Shopping in Westchester
Westchester’s real estate industry was abuzz this week with news that BCW member Houlihan Lawrence has been acquired by HomeServices of America, Inc., a firm owned by business magnate Warren Buffet.
While the Bronxville-based company is under new ownership, it will be run independently with day-to-day operations continuing under two of the principals, brothers Stephen and Chris Meyers. A third owner, Nancy Seaman of Greenwich, will step aside as chairman.
Houlihan Lawrence serves Westchester, Fairfield, Putnam, Dutchess, Orange and Ulster counties of New York and Connecticut with 1,300 sales associates operating in 30 sales offices. In 2016, Houlihan Lawrence closed $6.7 billion of sales volume.
Home Services is a Berkshire Hathaway affiliate. Berkshire Hathaway already owns real estate agencies in New York and Connecticut. The Houlihan Lawrence and Berkshire Hathaway offices in the region will not be merged.
Buffet is a business associate of Seaman’s husband, Alan Schwartz, the executive chairman of Guggenheim Partners.
