WIN Innovator Huntress Successfully Tests Cybersecurity Solution

The Westchester Innovation Network’s match of Huntress and BCW Member Progressive Computing successfully beta tested a new cybersecurity product.

Huntress—an innovative provider of cybersecurity solutions for small and medium-sized businesses—markets cybersecurity technology that monitors behavioral data and relies on analysts to investigate potentially malicious behavior.

During the four-month beta test, Progressive Computing, a Yonkers-based managed service provider, bundled Huntress’ Process Insights—an advanced endpoint detection and response solution—into its managed platform of cybersecurity solutions for small- and medium-sized businesses.

“Smaller businesses may feel immune from cybersecurity threats, thinking they are too small to really matter to thieves, but thieves are savvier than ever,” said Becky Teal, Community Lead for Huntress. “Small businesses are especially vulnerable because they can’t afford the robust cybersecurity tools that enterprise businesses leverage, and they can’t afford to hire entire IT teams to manage those solutions and the data they generate.”

Huntress sought feedback on the presentation of the data coming from Process Insights to determine if the right information was surfacing in the right places. The conversations with Progressive Computing’s co-founder and chief operating officer Robert Cioffi and his team confirmed that Huntress was displaying the right level of information to them to take appropriate action in the event of an attack.

“It’s our mission to drive innovation and we are thrilled to work with Huntress to do what we both do best — taking care of small and medium-sized businesses,” said Robert Cioffi, of Progressive Computing and a member of the BCW Board of Directors. “Huntress’ founders came from the National Security Agency and bring deep technical knowledge and passion about security. They are fulfilling a very important security need for companies like ours, bringing strong technical intelligence and an emphasis on the partner channel community to help us protect even our smallest customers.”

The Huntress Threat Operations team specifically reviewed 15,084 potentially malicious behaviors during the test period. No actual threats were uncovered—a testament to the security layers and practices in place to protect Progressive Computing’s client systems. Huntress’ technology saved Progressive Computing’s staff from wading through an ocean of log entries, alarms and notifications, pointing them to the threats that warranted scrutiny.

“Many of us have sat through educational webinars about the dangers of phishing, ransomware, and data breaches. The WIN initiative is designed to help our members position themselves at the vanguard of innovation, which is what our member Progressive Computing is doing in its work with Huntress. I look forward to seeing the new defense solutions that they develop,” said Dr. Marsha Gordon, the BCW’s president and CEO.
