Volunteer New York! Becomes Central Clearinghouse for Services in COVID-19 Crisis
At the outset of the COVID-19 outbreak, Volunteer NY quickly reorganized its priorities and resources to mobilize a Virtual Volunteer Center in coordination with local leaders, elected officials and nonprofits, acting as a regional hub for all COVID-19 related opportunities for those looking for the most efficient way to give their time or resources to help those most vulnerable being impacted by this crisis.
Evidence of their impact: people are responding: Within the last 30 days they have seen a remarkable uptick in volunteer web traffic, and the number of volunteers making connections through the Virtual Volunteer Center—an increase of 150% and 180% respectively, when compared to the same period last year. As well as ensuring that all members of our community have a way to help, even from their own homes. They have gone above and beyond to focus their time and efforts while working remotely and with their own limited resources to achieve such an impact.
“We are thankful to the entire Volunteer New York! team for their quick response to COVID-19. Within 48 hours Volunteer New York! mobilized a Virtual Volunteer Center to act as a hub for all nonprofits to raise awareness and to list vital needs to help the most vulnerable in our region,” said County Executive George Latimer. “What Volunteer New York! has done these past few weeks is truly remarkable,” Latimer continued.
