Tompkins Mahopac Bank Advances Commercial Lending Team

Tompkins Mahopac Bank’s (TMB) announces new team positions in its commercial lending division, including the promotion of William J. Dunkel of the bank’s Mt. Kisco location to senior vice president, and the addition of team member, Gary Grandstaff, vice president, commercial lending in Dutchess County.

Dunkel began his banking career at TMB (then Mahopac Bank) as a management trainee in 1998, learning multiple positions of the bank. Upon the program’s completion, he entered formal credit training and in 2006 developed into a commercial relationship officer in Putnam County. In 2014, he relocated into the Westchester County market and currently is responsible for managing loan portfolios of more than $120 million, and handling loan relationships up to $40 million. Prior to TMB, Dunkel worked in the construction industry for a home builder.

Dunkel has a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Management Science from State University of New York Cortland. He is president of the board for Habitat for Humanity Putnam County, where he’s been a board member since 2014, and belongs to various chambers and business organizations. Dunkel lives in New Milford, Connecticut with his wife, Lauren, and four children.

Grandstaff, who has more than 25 years of banking experience in the Hudson Valley and most recently was with KeyBank in Poughkeepsie, is based in TMB’s Wappingers Falls’ location. In his new position Grandstaff’s focus is on developing and managing commercial relationships in Dutchess County, as well as partnering with the regional branch managers and advisors with Tompkins Financial Advisors to further grow the county’s market. He also actively engages in regional events and otherwise works to support the needs of the county’s business community.

Grandstaff completed commercial credit training by GE Capital. He previously was on the board of the Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce and New York City Autism Speaks planning committee and was a volunteer with the United Way of Putnam/Westchester. He lives in Putnam Valley with his family.

“Bill and Gary are exceptional in their commitment to and expertise in serving the banking needs of area businesses,” said John Kraus, senior vice president, commercial lending division manager. “We are thrilled to see Bill advance with Tompkins and excited to have Gary as a part of the Tompkins family.”
