WMCHealth Network to Assume Full Ownership and Operation of Bon Secours Charity Health Systems Hospitals

In a major announcement for the region’s healthcare community, BCW Member Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) and Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH) announced Thursday that they have amicably agreed to end their joint venture partnership involving Bon Secours Charity Health System (BSCHS), with WMCHealth assuming full ownership and operational control of the three BSCHS hospitals in its Western Region — Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY, Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY, and St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick, NY.
“Patients are at the center of everything we do. With this new chapter we are strengthening our promise to create a healthier Hudson Valley where every family can rely on advanced care that is rooted in their community,” said David Lubarsky, MD, MBA, FASA, President and Chief Executive Officer of WMCHealth. “This evolution allows us to honor the original shared commitment to support community care by enhancing our ability to deliver seamless, integrated care across the Hudson Valley and build a system that meets the evolving needs of the diverse communities we serve. By fully integrating these hospitals, we are creating a stronger, more sustainable network that will serve generations to come.”
For families and individuals in Suffern, Warwick, Port Jervis, and across the Hudson Valley, this transition will allow for stronger connections between these community hospitals and the resources of WMCHealth, including advanced trauma care and life-saving transplants.
Bon Secours Mercy Ministries and the Sisters of Charity of St. Elizabeth, the Catholic sponsors of the health system, have provided their support for this transition, and going forward the facilities will no longer be operated as Catholic entities.
WMCHealth has served as the primary operator of all three hospitals and their associated facilities since entering a joint partnership with BSMH in 2015, with the goal of supporting and stabilizing the hospitals’ operations so that each could fulfill its mission and provide services for the betterment of its community. This transition will further support WMCHealth’s efforts to prioritize integration, long-term sustainability and enhanced operational agility, and to best meet the evolving needs of patients across New York’s Hudson Valley.
Including its Western Region hospitals, WMCHealth encompasses nine hospitals and 60 ambulatory care sites across more than 6,000 square miles, and includes the region’s only Level I (adult and pediatric) trauma center and the only Academic Medical Center between New York City and Albany.
