With limited employment options for teens this summer, NewYork-Presbyterian opened its doors to employees’ children interested in medical careers and provided 153 paid internships throughout their hospitals this summer. The Summer Youth Employment Program started in response to the impact of the pandemic on closing down traditional opportunities for young people to work during the summer to gain experience in career options and to earn money.
Interns participated in a four-week program that took place five days a week from 9-5pm that started late July. Interns were paired with a mentor and rotated to various departments within the hospital.
NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital hosted 14 students who worked in various departments including Nursing, Radiology, Cancer Services, and more.
NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital hosted eleven students who interned in the Critical Care Department, Hospital Pharmacy and more.
