More Good News for Westchester’s Booming Urban Centers
The old AT&T building in White Plains is getting a new look. A Long Island based developer has announced plans to convert the former AT&T building at 440 Hamilton Avenue into 245 rental apartments including 25 affordable units. The building’s limestone exterior wall will be removed and replaced with a glass wall featuring a series of cascading glass ribbons on North Broadway. The building, which was built in two phases in the 1960s, formerly served as a regional control center for AT&T.
In other big news for White Plains, Alliance Residential Company unveiled plans this week to build a 16-story apartment building with retail space and a small public park at the intersection of Mamaroneck Avenue and East Post Road. Called Broadstone White Plains, the project would feature 434 rental apartments on a lot with frontage on Mamaroneck Avenue, East Post Road and Mitchell Place. Alliance Residential Company is one of the largest real estate and development firms in the country.
With its easy access to Metro North train service and a thriving downtown, White Plains has been attracting a growing number of national developers including LCOR and Lennar which both have large residential projects under way in the downtown.
