Montefiore Announces New $41 Million Project to Modernize Health Care In Mount Vernon

Montefiore Health System (MHS), a member of the Business Council of Westchester, this week announced plans to build a new, $41 million health care complex on Sandford Boulevard in Mount Vernon, which will be funded by a grant from New York State.

The new, 40,000-square-foot location is central to Montefiore’s ongoing commitment to provide the best, most comprehensive care to the people of the City of Mount Vernon and will be home to a state-of-the art Hospital-Based Off-Campus Emergency Department and comprehensive ambulatory care center.

Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital will continue to be operational until the new Sandford Boulevard location is open. This new care model with an emphasis on comprehensive, coordinated patient-centered care and improving wellness will be specifically tailored to the health care needs of Mount Vernon residents.

“We are proud to begin the next phase of our investment in this community through our new, state-of-the-art health care center on Sandford Boulevard,” said Lynn Richmond, Chief Strategy Officer of Montefiore Medicine. “Our goal is to bring the most forward-thinking, modern medicine to Mount Vernon and the surrounding region and to provide the highest quality care when and where people in this community need it most. Our new site puts patients first, reflects best practices in health care and ensures Mount Vernon residents have high-quality care for years to come.”

The new, state-of-the-art health care center on Sandford Boulevard is anticipated to have an opening date at the end of 2020, pending the necessary approvals by the New York State Department of Health. Once the new location is complete, the current campus will be available for redevelopment.

“Congratulations to Montefiore on this exciting announcement, which will do so much to enhance the level of care in Mount Vernon and provide a boost for the entire region,” said Marsha Gordon, President and CEO of the Business Council of Westchester. “Westchester continues to be a leader in the area of health care and this is another example of investment and innovation that will especially benefit our urban centers.”
