Dignitaries that included His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York, were at Westchester Medical Center, the flagship of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), on Oct. 2 for the ceremonial dedication of the hospital’s new Ambulatory Care Pavilion.
The new, 260,000–square–foot, eight-story Ambulatory Care Pavilion is Westchester Medical Center’s new focal point for ambulatory care services. The construction of the Ambulatory Care Pavilion, along with an additional 20,000–square–foot expansion of Westchester Medical Center’s main tower, represents a $230 million investment in the Hudson Valley by WMCHealth.
Cardinal Dolan was joined by elected officials, community leaders and WMCHealth senior administration for the celebration. Prior to the dedication, Cardinal Dolan administered a “Blessing of Hands” for caregivers in the WMCHealth workforce.
“How beautiful it is when we can, as a community, come together to enhance healthcare,” said Cardinal Dolan during the ceremony. “I’m grateful to be part of something new, something promising, something hopeful here in this magnificent new addition to an already sterling network of healthcare at Westchester Medical Center.”
The Ambulatory Care Pavilion includes services offered by WMCHealth’s Heart & Vascular Institute, Advanced Imaging, Surgery Center, Gastroenterology department and Transplant Center, with additional specialty services to be offered in the near future. Patient care services at the Ambulatory Care Pavilion began in June.
Michael D. Israel, President and CEO, WMCHealth, said, “Westchester Medical Center has traditionally been the centerpiece for the Hudson Valley’s advanced care services. The new, state–of-the–art Ambulatory Care Pavilion sets a new standard for patient–centered services in the region and signifies the establishment of an ambulatory care hub on WMCHealth’s Valhalla campus. The Ambulatory Care Pavilion is not just an investment in steel and glass, but a true investment by Westchester Medical Center in the physical and mental health of Hudson Valley residents, putting Westchester County and the entire Hudson Valley at the forefront of healthcare delivery.”
John Ravitz, Vice President and COO of the Business Council of Westchester, who attended Wednesday’s dedication ceremony, said it was a major accomplishment for the Westchester Medical Center as well as an economic driver for the region.
“As one of the largest publicly financed economic development projects in recent years, the ambulatory care pavilion has helped to create jobs and fuel the region’s economy. Congratulations to Westchester Medical Center.”
