BCW Member Burke Opens Marshal Caregiver Center for Families

Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains on May 30 opened the Marsal Caregiver Center to provide a space where family members can rest, relax and recharge.

The 1,657-square-foot center, made possible by a donation from former Burke patient Bryan Marsal and his wife, Kathleen, includes a kitchenette for snack and beverages, a workspace, a tranquility room and a place to receive professional care.

“Burke is opening the Marsal Caregiver Center to expand the definition of caring beyond our primary patients to the care of their dedicated family members and loved ones,” vice president of patient experience Colleen Borrelli said according to the Northern Westchester Examiner. “Caring for the caregiving will enhance the recovery of our patients, and help caregivers be in a better physical and mental place, themselves, enabling everyone to adapt to new physical challenges, limitations and demands.”

That facility is the first caregiver center at a rehabilitation hospital in the country and the fifth in the Montefiore Health System of which Burke is a member.

Among those attending the ribbon cutting ceremony was Burke President and CEO Jeffrey Menkes and Montefiore Medicine President CEO Dr. Steven Safyer and Westchester County Executive George Latimer.
