Business Council of Westchester members were in Albany on May 23 for the Annual Lobby Day when they met with state legislators and heard from policy makers on how government actions affect businesses across New York State.

Meetings were held with State legislators including Sens. Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Terrence Murphy and Assembly Members Shelley Mayer and David Buchwald. Presenters included E.J. McMahon, Director of the Empire Center for Public Policy, who gave an overview of New York State’s fiscal condition; Jessie McKinley, the New York Times Albany Bureau Chief and Ross Levi, VP of Marketing for the Division of Tourism, among others. Members also received an exclusive tour of the state’s Capitol.

Business Council of Westchester President and CEO Marsha Gordon also received the 2017 Women of Distinction Award from Stewart-Cousins, Democratic Leader of the NYS Senate.

John Ravitz, Executive Vice President and COO of The Business Council of Westchester, said BCW members who attended the trip were representing key industries that are creating jobs in Westchester. He added that issues affecting Westchester’s economic future, including the ramifications of Indian Point’s closing, tax relief, regulatory relief, and mandate relief were among the topics discussed.

“The Business Council’s Government Action Council takes such an active role in speaking to leaders and lobbying on behalf of our members,” said Ravitz. “We thank all our elected officials for taking the time to meet with us and hear from our members on issues that they want to see addressed in Albany during the legislative session.’’

During its trip, The Business Council also presented lawmakers with its 2017 Legislative Agenda, which outlines the organization’s legislative priorities. To download a copy, visit www.thebcw.org.
