BCW Goes to Albany for Lobby Day

A delegation of 25 businesses leaders traveled to Albany this week with the Business Council of Westchester to discuss the group’s legislative priorities with state leaders and key officials

Economic development, mandate relief and legislative reform were among the items in the BCW’s 2018 Legislative Agenda presented to legislators during the BCW’s Annual Lobby Day.

The group met with Westchester’s State Legislative delegation, as well as with the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and Senate Democratic Leader Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul. A working session was also held with the manager of public affairs for the Lawsuit Reform Alliance of New York, The New York State Director for the National Federation of Independent Business and the Director of Business Engagement for New York State’s Department of Labor. Joseph Spector, the Albany Bureau Chief for Gannett News was the keynote lunch speaker.

“It was a very productive day,” said John Ravitz, Vice President and COO of the Business Council of Westchester. “This annual event provides our members with the opportunity to connect with their elected officials and to advocate for businesses-friendly policies.”

This year’s legislative agenda asks for federal, state and county reforms that reduce taxes, business fees, regulatory requirements and lengthy approval processes that act as obstacles to creating new jobs in Westchester County and the Hudson Valley.
