Banking on Yonkers

Sabatino, and Michael Spain chairman of Tompkins Mahopac Bank.

Congratulations to BCW member Tompkins Mahopac Bank on the grand opening Wednesday of its new state-of-the-art branch at the Boyce Thompson Center in Yonkers. BCW President and CEO Marsha Gordon was among the many dignitaries attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Unlike conventional banks with glassed-in tellers and a roped-off waiting line, Tompkins’ branch-of-the-future features a universal banker that assists customers on-the-spot, whether that means making a deposit, taking out a loan, directing the person to a nearby tablet for information or otherwise providing assistance. The Tompkins branch’s innovative concept was drawn, in part, from Tompkins’ 2016 Millennial Survey, which showed the generation valued the convenient location of a bank, plus the ability to conduct banking business at a branch and online, among other findings. The public was encouraged to participate in Tompkins Mahopac Bank’s community coin-drop before and during the ribbon cutting, when the proceeds were matched by the bank and donated via a large check presentation to Westhab, a large nonprofit that provides affordable housing and supportive services in Westchester.
