Sustainable Westchester Partners with CURE100 to Offer Carbon Tracker App to Municipalities and Residents

Sustainable Westchester, which delivers climate solutions to the governments, businesses, organizations, and people of Westchester County, has partnered with CURE100 to offer the Carbon Tracker to municipalities and residents throughout Westchester County. The Carbon Tracker is a free application that runs on any web-enabled device.

The Carbon Tracker allows users to make informed choices to reduce household carbon emissions, helping them estimate and understand their household’s emissions and compare them with others in the same zip code. Emissions are tabulated in six categories: Transportation (Vehicles, Flights, Train Commuting and Other Uses of Gas/Diesel), Heating, Electricity, Food and Waste, Good and Services, and Zip Code Overhead.

In each category, users are asked a few questions and will see their carbon results and a summary of their carbon impact. The app can also be used to measure the impact of past, present and future changes, such as switching to an electric vehicle or changing your diet.

Unique among greenhouse gas emissions tools, the Carbon Tracker compares a user’s household emissions to that of the average household in the same zip code for peer-to-peer context. In addition, all users that enter the Carbon Tracker through a common portal, such as Sustainable Westchester’s will be grouped anonymously together to measure the impact of their collective community reductions.

Recommendations for how to reduce your household’s annual emissions are available through the app’s Expert Carbon Consultant as well as via Sustainable Westchester’s existing programs.

Sustainable Westchester Executive Director Noam Bramson said, “CURE100’s Carbon Tracker is an innovative, user-friendly tool that empowers individuals and communities to measure their carbon footprint and consider decarbonization options. We are excited to collaborate with CURE100 and our member municipalities in our shared mission of advancing a sustainable region and world.”

“For 10 years, Sustainable Westchester has been a leader in the County’s sustainability efforts and has made a tremendous impact. We are delighted to celebrate this new partnership that will support carbon literacy, a clean energy transition, and healthier, more prosperous and resilient communities,” said Anjali Sauthoff, Board Director of CURE100.

It only takes a minute to set up your account using a valid email address. To access the Carbon Tracker App, visit https://sustainablewestchester.org/cure100-carbon-tracker/.
