Chief Architect Joins New York Tech

Suzanne Musho, AIA, NCARB, has joined New York Institute of Technology as vice president for capital planning and facilities operations and chief architect, a new position. A licensed professional architect and entrepreneur, she has more than 25 years of experience leading large teams in strategic planning for major building projects.

In this role, Musho will provide leadership in the operation, maintenance, renovation, and construction of university buildings and grounds, sustainability and energy management efforts, real estate, and other physical plant infrastructure. Her responsibilities will span all New York Institute of Technology campuses, including its two main campuses—in Long Island and New York City—as well as campuses in Jonesboro, Arkansas and Vancouver, Canada.

“Suzanne’s impeccable credentials and experience in project design, planning, and project management are ideally suited to our needs. Her work process, from conceptual ideas to the built form, is inspirational and mission driven, and her vast range of experience—including projects in education and campus planning, civic and cultural buildings and more—aligns strategically with our areas of interest,” said Henry C. “Hank” Foley, Ph.D., president of New York Institute of Technology.

Musho will serve as a member of the university’s senior management team and will provide vision and leadership in developing the institution’s campus master plans. She will be responsible for planning and design of new construction and will provide direction and technical expertise to architects, engineers, consultants, and other providers. In addition, she will oversee campus facilities operations, including routine examination and compliance with building, fire, health and safety codes.

Musho founded Musho Architecture and Design LLC, in 2000. Since 2015, she has served as a vice president at Zubatkin Owner Representation, where she was responsible for multiple capital projects at the American Museum of Natural History, such as the Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation and the new Jackie Robinson Museum, celebrating Robinson’s role as a sports hero and civil rights leader.

Prior to Zubatkin, she was chief architect and director of facilities and operations at The School at Columbia University, an independent K-8 day school founded in 2003. There, she served as owner’s representative of the renovation for the intermediate and middle divisions, and chief project manager for The School’s primary division and music school.

Musho’s experience also includes working as an associate at Pei Cobb Freed & Partners. There, she was part of the design teams for the Richard J. Daronco Westchester County Courthouse complex and the Buck Institute for Research in Aging in Marin County, Calif. Musho Architecture projects have included the corporate headquarters for LERA, a world-renowned structural engineering firm, as well as the Kips Bay Towers solar array and the Boomer Esiason Foundation Headquarters.

Musho earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Design at the University of Buffalo, where she also earned a Master of Architecture. She has an M.B.A. Entrepreneurship Certificate from NYU Stern W. R. Berkley Innovation Labs. A frequent public speaker, Musho has won numerous awards for her work and been featured in several publications. She is active on a number of boards, and currently serves on the Dean’s Council, University of Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning, and is a member of the Building Committee of the Churchill School and Center. She also served as chairperson of the Dominican Academy Board of Trustees.
