Good News for Our Job Market
There was good news for Westchester and the Hudson Valley economy in December as the New York State Labor Department announced that the unemployment rate remained at 4 percent, the lowest since December 2006.
That is unchanged from November 2016 and down from 4.1 percent in December 2015. In December 2016, there were 44,900 unemployed in the region, down from 45,400 in November 2016 and also down from 45,800 in December 2015. Year-over-year in December 2016, labor force decreased by 13,800 or 1.2 percent, to 1,115,900.
Among the seven counties in the region, Putnam County (3.8 percent) had the lowest unemployment rate in December 2016 and Sullivan (4.9 percent) had the highest.
