American Christmas of Mount Vernon Continues to Thrive as MK Illumination

Fred Schwam, a true entrepreneur whose company American Christmas was honored by the BCW Hall of Fame in 2015, this week announced his retirement, saying he is proud of all the company has done in its 50 years.

Schwam said that his final day will be on January 31, but he feels that the transition to the company’s new owner Dan Casterella, coincidentally a BCW Rising Star, has been smooth and that he is confident the company will continue to thrive as MK Illumination.

The company will remain a BCW member.

“After almost 31 years, it is time for me to retire. I do so with the knowledge that this great company is in fine hands, both in terms of our long-time management team and our extended family at MK Illumination,’’ said Schwam. “I feel a great sense of contentment about all we have accomplished with American Christmas. We have distinguished ourselves with our company culture and our premium quality product and service. I take great pride in the role we play throughout the country, especially in New York, in creating a wonderful environment during the holiday season.”

Marsha Gordon, President and CEO of The Business Council of Westchester, wished Schwam the best of luck.

“We are sad that Fred Schwam will be leaving American Christmas, a very successful family business that has decorated some of New York City’s most iconic stores and buildings since 1968. But it is good to know that the business is thriving under the leadership of another BCW member, Dan Casterella, and continues to employ people in our county.”
