The YWCA of White Plains and Central Westchester’s mission of empowering women and eliminating racism will be on display today at the 12th annual In the Company of Women, featuring keynote speaker Belinda Miles, BCW Board Member and WCC President. The event, gone virtual this year, could not be held on a more fitting day as we celebrate Juneteenth or Freedom Day. Governor Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order this week to declare the day a state holiday. It commemorates June 19, 1865 when the last remaining slaves were emancipated.
Cuomo said that he will propose legislation next year making June 19 a permanent state holiday.
