BCW Member Regeneron Announces Science Talent Search Semi-Finalists

BCW member Regeneron, which runs the most prestigious high school science competition in the country, announced this week the 300 semi-finalists who will go on to the next round.

Twenty-Seven high school students in the lower Hudson Valley were named semi-finalists including students from Ardsley, Briarcliff Manor, Byram Hills, Chappaqua, Croton, Edgemont, Katonah-Lewisboro, Lakeland, Nyack, Ossining, Pelham, Putnam Valley, Somers and Yorktown school districts.

“Regeneron has energized this competition which is producing future generations of scientists,’’ said Marsha Gordon, President and CEO of The Business Council of Westchester. “We are indebted to Regeneron for its commitment to scientific discovery as well as its contributions to making our region one of the top Bio-Tech centers in the nation.”

The Regeneron Science Talent Search (Regeneron STS) is the nation’s most prestigious pre-college science competition. Alumni of STS have made extraordinary contributions to science and hold more than 100 of the world’s most coveted science and math honors, including the Nobel Prize and National Medal of Science. Annually, students entering the Regeneron STS compete for more than $3.1 million in awards.

Each scholar, selected from 1,964 entrants, receives a $2,000 award with an additional $2,000 going to his or her respective school, resulting in $1.3 million in total scholar awards from Regeneron. The 40 finalists chosen to compete in Washington, D.C in March will be announced on January 23.

“Regeneron congratulates this year’s Science Talent Search scholars, who have applied deep curiosity and rigorous research skills to the important scientific questions of today,” said Hala Mirza, senior vice president of corporate communications and citizenship at Regeneron.
