Sing Sing Museum Would Boost Tourism

BCW President and CEO Marsha Gordon toured the site of the proposed Sing Sing Prison Museum on Thursday along with Westchester County Executive George Latimer and a delegation of state and local officials and stakeholders. The group held a press conference on the site to draw attention to plans which have been stalled for several years. Historic Hudson River Towns in conjunction with the New York State Department of Corrections, the Town and Village of Ossining, and various stakeholders are working to revive the museum plans and preserve historic artifacts like an 1825 cell block that are on the site.

“The BCW has long felt that a museum at the prison would be significant draw for tourism and would have economic benefits for the Town of Ossining and Westchester County in addition to being of great historic and educational value,’’ said Gordon. “We are glad that work has begun again on moving this important project forward.”

County Executive Latimer said that the county would lend its support to the museum and hoped to be an active partner in the endeavor.
