WIN Participant Politically Urban Makes Fashion Statement with Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins
Westchester Innovation Network (WIN) participant Politically Urban, a fashion brand, delivered a custom-designed scarf to NY State Senate Majority Leaders Andrea Stewart-Cousins at ArtsWestchester’s annual gala on Tuesday.
The one-of-a-kind scarf was part of Politically Urban’s marketing effort for the brand that targets young, urban adults with eco-friendly, sustainable fashion products that promote a positive black image.
“Being Politically Urban means boldly walking in your purpose while expressing yourself fashionably, and Sen. Stewart-Cousins embodies that mindset with her signature style,” said Politically Urban founder Quinnell Williams, a Yonkers resident. “I designed this brand for leaders, creators and truth seekers who unify communities and cultures.”
Williams conceived the idea for his clothing design company while working on a college senior project that helped him earn a graphic design degree from the State University of New York in Cobleskill.
Politically Urban is a made-to-order company that uses an e-commerce platform that receives orders, prints shirts to order and then ships. The made-to-order e-commerce platform allows Williams to focus on marketing.
WIN’s goal is driving economic development, innovation, and growth in Westchester County by matching participants with local partners that help test products and services in real-world situations to produce valuable feedback as participants refine their concepts.
WIN matched Politically Urban with Thompson & Bender to help the startup develop affordable marketing and promotional strategies. Thompson & Bender booked a consultation with ArtsWestchester’s Executive Director Janet Langsam, who gave Williams creative direction on the scarf design. Thompson & Bender also helped Politically Urban secure an exhibition table at the Cross County Center’s Summer Style Lounge and a speaking engagement at a Westchester Community College fashion class.
“The BCW recognizes that startup businesses in all sectors need help with marketing. We hope that Politically Urban can develop innovative marketing strategies to find new customers,” said BCW President & CEO Marsha Gordon.
