Westchester Parks Foundation Seeking Volunteers for Pitch In for Parks Cleanup
Now that Spring is finally here, BCW Member Westchester Parks Foundation is seeking volunteers of all ages for Pitch in for Parks, its largest volunteer program. The annual event, held in partnership with the Westchester County Parks Department, will take place throughout Westchester from Monday, April 18 through Saturday, April 23, rain, or shine. Pre-registration is required.
Volunteers, working as individuals, families, corporations, local businesses, or groups, are needed for trash clean up, clearing trails and shorelines, restoring wildlife habitats, removing invasive vines from trees, painting, raking, and preparing and planting flower beds.
“Last year we expanded the program to a weeklong event and had 828 volunteers spread across 14 locations throughout Westchester County that collected a record breaking 1,923 pounds of trash and removed 14,545 square feet of invasive species. This year we are looking to increase those numbers and encourage Westchester residents to help participate in an Earth Day activity right in their own community,” said Joe Stout, Executive Director of Westchester Parks Foundation stated.
Westchester County Parks Commissioner Kathy O’Connor said, “The Pitch in for Parks event is one of the most important events held each year to get our parks ready for our busiest season. Thank you to the Westchester Parks Foundation for continuing the program to help keep our parks clean and safe for park-goers!”
Projects will take place at the following locations throughout Westchester County Parks: Monday, April 18 – Pitch in For Parks Kick Off, Lenoir Preserve in Yonkers
Tuesday, April 19 – Thursday, April 21 — volunteer projects throughout the parks
Friday, April 22 — Earth Day Volunteer Project, Ridge Road Park, Hartsdale
Saturday, April 23 — Glen Island Park, New Rochelle; Tibbetts Brook Park, Yonkers; and Bronx River Reservation at Westchester County Center, White Plains; and Blue Mountain Reservation, Peekskill.
