Wartburg Receives Westchester County F.I.R.S.T. Grant

Wartburg, a Senior Living and Healthcare organization in Mount Vernon, announced they have been awarded a $45,000 grant through the Westchester County FIRST: Financial Investments for Recovery and a Sustainable Tomorrow Program. This new program is designed to offer immediate financial relief to organizations in Westchester County that have been negatively impacted by the pandemic.

The Westchester County Business FIRST Program is being administered by the County Office of Economic Development through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The Program is open to businesses and nonprofits that employ 99 or fewer people and whose primary business location is in Westchester County. Eligible businesses and nonprofits can apply for grants of up to $45,000.

This year’s grant program provides up to $17 million to support nonprofits and religious entities facing challenges as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. Westchester County Executive George Latimer observed, “Our nonprofits and religious organizations have been a vital resource to the communities they support throughout the duration of the pandemic. This round of grant funding is an investment in organizations that are critical to our residents in need of financial relief.”

Many nonprofits have faced an increased demand for services, significant costs for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), loss of funding and other pandemic-related challenges that have impacted their operating costs and income. This grant funding will help to cover some of their expenses as they continue providing invaluable services throughout our communities. The Westchester County Business FIRST grant program is being administered by the Westchester County Office of Economic Development through the American Rescue Plan.

“These are difficult times, and we are grateful that the Office of Economic Development supports County nonprofits,” said Dr. David Gentner, President & CEO of Wartburg. “Wartburg is a large economic driver in lower Westchester and this funding will help in the protracted pandemic recovery and repositioning.”
