Statewide Group Urges ‘Yes’ Vote on Academic Standards

The Business Council of Westchester was among 11 business and education groups of High Achievement New York (HANY) that this week called on New York State’s education policy makers to vote “yes” on the revised versions of K-12 Math and English Language Arts standards also known as the Next General Learning Standards. The group also called on policy makers to reject calls for a moratorium on standards in grades K-2. HANY’s letter to New York Education Chancellor Betty Rosa and the State Board of Regents urged the need for high standards, grade-level reading, and confidence in the state’s education system to provide the highest quality education in schools across the state. In addition to the BCW, the letter is signed by the Coalition of High Achievement New York, American Association of University Women – NYS, Buffalo District Parent Coordinating Council, Buffalo Urban League, Bethlehem Parents for Excellence, The Business Council of New York State, Center for American Progress, Rochester Parent Jeff Smink, StudentsFirst NY, and the Urban League of Rochester.
