Revitalizing Urban Centers Gets a Big Boost in New Rochelle

Revitalizing Westchester’s urban centers, which is a major initiative of the Business Council of Westchester, took a significant step forward this week with the groundbreaking of 587 Main Street, a 28-story, mixed-use building in New Rochelle’s newly revitalized downtown district.
RXR Realty, Brause Realty and ABS Partners Real Estate joined New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson and City Manager Charles B. Strome on Wednesday to break ground for the building that will feature 280 rental units, 28 of which will be affordable, as well as 10,000 square feet of arts and cultural space and 17,000 square feet of commercial space.
“Today’s groundbreaking is an important step toward fulfilling our vision for a thriving city where residents and visitors of every kind can find a place to shop, a place to work, a place to meet, or a place to live,” said New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson. New Rochelle’s overall redevelopment plan is ultimately expected to attract more than $4 billion in new investment.
“The Business Council congratulates Mayor Bramson on this important step in the transformation of downtown New Rochelle. The revitalization under way in New Rochelle, which the BCW supports, is very exciting and bodes well for economic development in our county and region,” said BCW President and CEO Marsha Gordon.
Mayor Bramson provided an overview of the city’s redevelopment plan at the BCW’s KeyBank Speaker Series earlier this year which also featured presentations by the mayors of Yonkers, Mount Vernon and White Plains.
