WIN Innovator CatchU Launches Innovative App
Westchester Innovation Network (WIN) innovator, Dr. Jeannette Mahoney, launched her fall-propensity CatchU app on the Apple App Store this week. CatchU is the first and only quantitative, objective fall risk assessment that provides advanced insight to an individual’s risk of falling and why an individual may fall. Test results are supported by personalized recommendations that are proven to prevent falls.
CatchU will enable geriatricians, assisted living and retirement communities, and other providers to measure a senior’s ability to integrate multisensory information using reaction time measures (visual and tactile) through a quick, accurate, and accessible iPhone App based test. After the test is completed, healthcare providers receive a tailored report delineating their patient’s fall risk and personalized recommendations for them to consider.
“Our mission is to raise awareness of fall risks, to prevent falls before they happen, and to improve the well-being of seniors and all people,” said Dr. Mahoney, Founder and President of JET Worldwide Enterprises Inc., producer of CatchU. She added, “I am very lucky to be part of the WIN program, so thank you so much for believing in us!”
Dr. Mahoney founded the company based on over 15 years of clinical neuroscience research, which is documented in over a dozen peer-reviewed journal articles.
Earlier this year, WIN matched CatchU with the Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains to perform a randomized clinical trial to study the latest technological advances to predict and prevent falls in older adults. The randomized trial is expected to begin soon. According to the Centers for Disease control and Prevention (CDC), nearly 30% of Americans over 65 experience a fall annually. Falls are the leading cause of injury and injury-related death in older adults, with over $50 billion spent annually on falls.
