Westchester DA Susan Cacace Discusses Crime, Business, and Community at BCW Leadership Event

The new Westchester County District Attorney, Susan Cacace, had her first opportunity to address an audience of business and community leaders on Wednesday at the Business Council of Westchester’s Valley Bank Leadership Conversation, where she discussed her office’s crime-fighting strategies and long-term vision.

The BCW’s Leadership Conversation series provides a platform for Westchester’s business and government leaders to engage in meaningful discussions on issues impacting the region. The breakfast event, moderated by BCW President and CEO Marsha Gordon, took place at Kanopi in downtown White Plains.

Cacace listed her priorities, which included dealing with retail theft, bias-related offenses, and the challenges of allocating more resources to prosecute domestic violence and sex crimes.

Cacace brings extensive experience to her role, and she won the Westchester County District Attorney race in November with 64% of the vote. She previously served as the longest-tenured County Court Judge in Westchester, retiring in December 2023 after nearly two decades on the bench.

The District Attorney emphasized the need for more proactive investigations and a renewed focus on dismantling organized crime networks operating within the county. Additionally, she addressed the recent uptick in bias crimes and called for stronger engagement with community organizations to explain the meaning of a hate crime and to allay victims’ fear of reporting bias crimes.

Cacace oversees a team of 130 assistant district attorneys, 31 criminal investigators and 90 support staff that operate out of offices in downtown White Plains and in seven district offices throughout Westchester County.

Her legal career began in 1989 as an Assistant District Attorney in Westchester County, and she has since held leadership roles in numerous legal and civic organizations, including the Yonkers Lawyers Association and the Westchester County Bar Association.
