Wegmans Announces Opening Date, Hiring of 500 for Platinum Mile Location
Wegmans, the much-touted grocery chain coming to Harrison’s Platinum Mile and a member of The Business Council of Westchester, this week announced that it will open in the spring of 2020.
In anticipation, it is seeking 220 full-time employees to staff the 121,000-square-foot store, and in total, more than 500 people are expected to be hired locally.
“Westchester is excited to welcome Wegmans to the long list of incredible employers who are providing rewarding jobs and opportunities for professional growth, while also enhancing the quality of life for all of those who live, work and play in Westchester,” said Marsha Gordon, president and CEO of the Business Council of Westchester. “This is yet another positive development for Westchester’s Platinum Mile, and a big win for Westchester.”
Most immediately, the company is looking for candidates to fill full-time, customer-service and entry-level management positions, as well as culinary positions such as line cooks and chefs. Hiring for part-time positions will begin later this year.
Last year, Wegmans was named as the top place to work in retail, according to Great Place to Work and Fortune, which takes anonymous surveys of nearly 650,000 employees in the retail industry to determine which are the best employers. It was the third consecutive year Wegmans took home the top honor.
“Wegmans has such a tremendous reputation as a top place to work,” Gordon continued. “The BCW is proud and honored that Wegmans is sponsoring our Youth Summit, providing employment and career paths for the county’s next generation.”
