Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins Secures Funds for Bus Purchase at Charter School for Educational Excellence
State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins has announced the purchase of two mini buses by the Charter School for Educational Excellence (CSEE) in Yonkers, thanks to $215,000 in discretionary funding she secured for the school.
The funds, delivered through the State and Municipal (SAM) Facilities Grant program administered by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY), enabled the purchase to support the school’s extracurricular and athletic programming. CSEE is a BCW Member.
Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins visited the school Thursday to see the vehicles, meet students, and highlight the importance of investing in educational infrastructure. The new buses will expand transportation options for students participating in sports, arts, and academic activities, ensuring safer and more reliable travel while reducing logistical barriers for families.
“Every child deserves access to a well-rounded education that extends beyond the classroom,” said Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins. “By equipping schools with the resources they need – from modern facilities to dependable transportation — we empower students to thrive. I’m proud to deliver this funding to CSEE to support these activities which are so important to an enriching educational and extracurricular experience for students.”
“These buses are more than just transportation; they represent expanded opportunities and enriched educational experiences for our students,” said Eduardo LaGuerre, CSEE co-founder and chairman of the school’s Board of Trustees.“ Sen. Stewart-Cousins’ commitment to the success of our students is evident in this investment, and we are profoundly thankful for her vision and dedication.”
This investment aligns with Sen. Stewart-Cousins’ longstanding advocacy for investing in students during and after school, and follows grants she delivered at Sleepy Hollow Middle and High School and a $50,000 bus purchase for the Shames Jewish Community Center in Tarrytown’s after-school program, among countless other investments in Westchester schools and after-school programs throughout her time in Albany.
