Port Chester receives $5 million plus for sewer work
The Village of Port Chester has received a $5 million clean water grant from New York State to help with an on-going project to rehabilitate its aging sewer system. Port Chester is in the fourth year of a 5-year, $15 million sewer rehabilitation program that seeks to completely rehabilitate and modernize its sanitary sewer infrastructure. The project is expected to be completed by 2018-19.
“Port Chester has taken the initiative in securing important state assistance to lower these project costs for taxpayers,” said Assemblyman Steven Otis in a statement.
The repairs were mandated in a 2015 legal settlement between Port Chester and 11 other Westchester municipalities and a group of environmental advocacy organizations.
The state grant is part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s $2.5 billion clean water infrastructure program enacted in 2017, including the state grants portion advocated by Port Chester’s State Assemblyman Steve Otis, who helped initiate the municipal water grant program in 2015.
