Mount Vernon has first woman Mayor, Incumbent Mayors win in Yonkers, New Rochelle
Residents went to the polls in local elections in Westchester’s cities, towns and villages. Elections were also held for seats on the County Legislature and for two County Court Judgeships. These were the first elections in which New York State offered early voting.
Shawn Patterson-Howard, a Democrat, becomes Mount Vernon’s first woman mayor after defeating Acting Mayor Andre Wallace, who ran on the Republican line, and Conservative candidate Rosemarie Jaroz.
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, a Democrat, was returned to office after defeating Republican challenger Mario DeGiorgio and New Rochelle Democrat Noam Bramson also won reelection beating Republican opponent Brendan Conroy.
John Ravitz, Vice President and COO of the Business Council of Westchester, said it was gratifying to see the democratic process in action.
“We look forward to working with Mount Vernon’s new Mayor Shawn Patterson-Howard and continuing our relationships with Mayors Noam Bramson and Mike Spano, as well as members of the Board of Legislators and all the elected officials serving the residents of Westchester County,’’ said Ravitz.
