Berkeley College’s International Students Get Support in COVID-19 Crisis
For the 36 students who remain in Berkeley College’s residences in White Plains – many of whom are international students unable to return home during the COVID-19 crisis – Suzeana Stewart and Javon Joslyn are like family. These two members of the Berkeley College Student Development and Campus Life team also live on campus, ensuring the well-being of students in residence. Each week, they cater hot meals, distribute snack bags with nonperishable items, and host virtual social events.
“We become immediate family to the students who occupy our residence halls. Supporting our students and campus community is something I would expect to do in the same way as I would for my own family,” Suzeana said. “We want to make their stay here as comfortable as possible so they can navigate these challenging times and successfully pursue their degrees,” Javon added. There is only one place that is home, but with Suzeana and Javon on their side, students have a home away from home at Berkeley College.
