BCW to Co-Chair Alliance Seeking Full Gaming License for Empire City Casino

Continuing its long-standing advocacy for a full gaming license for Empire City Casino by MGM Resorts in Yonkers, the Business Council of Westchester announced this week that it is serving as a co-chair of a new alliance representing a diverse group of businesses, labor, and community organizations in Westchester and the Bronx who are in support of converting Empire City into a full-scale casino.

Called A Sure Bet for New York’s Future, the alliance will highlight the significant economic benefits for Westchester County, the Bronx, and the entire state as a result of a full-scale casino license at Empire City. “As Westchester’s largest business membership organization focused on advocacy and economic development, one of our long-standing legislative priorities has been to advocate for a full-scale casino license for Empire City Casino,” said John Ravitz, Executive Vice President and COO of the BCW. “As we look to rebuild our economy following the devastating impacts of COVID-19, making sure Empire City receives a full-scale casino license is more important than ever,” he added.

Before the pandemic, Empire City Casino was one of the largest private employers in Westchester, providing more than 1,000 local jobs. Empire City also generates more than $300 million annually for state education. If granted a full-scale casino license, Empire City would have the opportunity to generate significantly more revenue, speed up the state’s recovery, and create new jobs and millions in additional annual wages. The BCW is urging the business community to show its support for Empire City and Westchester by joining the alliance. To join the alliance, click here and fill out the form.
