Congresswoman Lowey today introduced the Child Care for Economic Recovery Act that would make historic investments in early childhood education. The bill would increase mandatory Child Care Entitlement to states funding up to $10 billion for 5 years and $10 billion for child care infrastructure grants. It would make the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit fully refundable and increase the value of the credit for families as well as provide $850 million to reimburse essential workers who have needed to obtain child/dependent care, and federally recognizing childcare workers as essential workers.
John Ravitz, Vice President and COO of the Business Council of Westchester, said childcare would be an important piece of Westchester’s recovery, and thanked Lowey on behalf of the BCW.
“The Business Council of Westchester (BCW) thanks Congresswoman Lowey for introducing the Child Care for Economic Recovery Act,’’ said Ravtiz.”As the Westchester business community begins to reemerge from the Coronavirus pandemic, the BCW’s Economic Recovery Task Force has made the issue of childcare a top priority that needs to be addressed. Both employers and employees now must face many childcare challenges. Passing Congresswoman Lowey’s legislation is imperative to help give Westchester County more resources to ensure that childcare facilities can continue to provide the safe havens that Westchester families deserve.”
