BCW Member Dorf & Nelson Recognized for its Diversity and Fairness in the Workplace

Dorf & Nelson recently became the first law firm and first private-sector business to be certified as a Gender Fair organization. According to the Rye-based firm, this certification puts Dorf & Nelson alongside large publicly-traded corporations such as Mastercard, JP Morgan Chase and Microsoft.

Founded in 2014, Gender Fair promotes diversity and fairness in the workplace, especially for women. The organization leverages the idea that most American’s support women’s rights and would prefer to purchase products from companies that believe the same.

Gender Fair encourages people to stop backing companies that do not have women in leadership roles or as members of their boards, insult women through marketing tactics or do not practice gender fairness. The organization has created a free app that profiles companies so that consumers can identify and support gender fair brands.

Through the Gender Fair app, companies are scored based on their commitment to advancing female leadership, their record of providing a supportive workplace, their portrayal of women in advertisements and their contributions to corporate social responsibility programs that focus on women in the workplace.

Dorf & Nelson made history by becoming the first of its kind to receive the certification as a Gender Fair organization. The firm’s practices include corporate law, creditors’ rights, employment law, intellectual property, life sciences, litigation, medical malpractice defense. Not-for-profit, property finance and real estate.

With a mission to help their clients achieve their business and personal goals, Dorf & Nelson employees 25 attorneys including 11 women and 14 men, as listed on its website. Three out of 11 of the firm’s partners are women. In addition to the Dorf & Nelson’s headquarters in Rye, New York, the firm has additional offices in Manhattan, Garden City and Los Angeles.
