THE ANGELS ARE ON OUR SIDE

Wartburg, a premier senior residential and healthcare provider in lower Westchester County, announced that the women religious organizations living on its campus are helping to make protective masks.

While Governor Cuomo urged the President to use the Defense Production Act to compel companies to manufacture much needed masks, gowns and ventilators so direct care workers and essential staff can be protected while treating those affected with COVID-19, several women religious organizations associated with Wartburg are tapping their sewing and organizational skills to help make the personal protective equipment.

The Dominican Sisters of Hope, the Sisters of St. Francis, and the Sisters of the Divine Compassion are now engaged in helping with supplies and sewing talents to assist with making masks. Masks sewn properly, with the right kind of fabric, can meet guidelines established by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The masks are not the same as N95 Respirators, but will be useful for other essential personnel who also need protection.

“We need continued advocacy for more broad and rapid testing, and assurance that protective equipment will continue to be available. Also, the Governor and County Executive have called for retired nurses and medical professionals to volunteer to help in the effort. Finally, we ask that all people in this community practice social distancing, self-monitoring, and general flu-prevention measures.” said Wartburg President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. David Gentner.

“Sewing isn’t my strong suit, but I am making a donation toward the purchase of elastic and ribbon. Anything for Wartburg’s Marvelous staff.” said Sr. Rose Kenlon- Sr. of St Francis, Lohman Village Resident.
“I’m not surprised the sisters have come forward so quickly with a helping hand. This in itself reminds me that the angels are on our side.” said Dr. Gentner.
