ShoeCandy® Opens First Boutique in Westchester
ShoeCandy by Kara Mac, an accessory-based women’s footwear brand, has opened up its first storefront.
The company, created by Kara Mac, had outgrown its previous office and storage facility—Mac’s home. Mac said she chose the modest space at 315 Kear St. Yorktown Heights, NY because it allows her to work flexible hours and continue traveling for work.
“I’m the face of the brand. I travel constantly and I didn’t want to commit myself to being open six days a week,” Mac said. “It’s the modern day retail space. I’m open when I’m open.” Store hours will be posted on her Facebook (@ShoeCandy by Kara Mac) and Twitter (@ShoeCandyShoes) accounts at the beginning of every week. Customers can also call 855-SHU-GIRL or email Kara@ShoeCandy.shoes. There will be “Ladies Night Out” events and Mac hopes to host pop-ups for what she calls her “talented friends in other female related industries.”
Gentlemen: Gift cards are also available.
As a relatively new company, attracting customers is easier when they can see and feel the product, Mac said. “I would rather have a more personal experience with you,” Mac said.
Mac got the idea for ShoeCandy three years ago when she noticed designers selling separate shoes with contrasting heel colors, patterns and textures. What if, she thought, she created a shoe with interchangeable heel covers?
“The idea is for that traveling businesswoman, the one who carries up to eight pairs of shoes for a two-week trip. Why can’t you have two pairs—a flat and a pump and redecorate them to look new?”
Mac, who graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology, quit her day job in 2014 after Daymond John, founder of FUBU and an investor on TV’s “Shark Tank,” said four words that forever changed her life: “This could be huge.”
