Burke Rehabilitation Hospital Announces 2022 Burke Award Dinner

Burke Rehabilitation Hospital has announced that it will host the annual Burke Award dinner on Thursday, June 16, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Brae Burn Country Club (39 Brae Burn Drive) in Purchase, NY.

This year’s Burke Award honoree is Jeffrey Menkes, President and Chief Executive Officer of Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, who is retiring this summer. CNN Anchor John Berman will serve as Master of Ceremonies at the event, which features a cocktail reception, dinner and award ceremony.

The Burke Award is conferred upon an individual or group who has made significant contributions to the field of rehabilitation, either through personal achievements, the development of research or the establishment of programs and facilities to assist individuals with disabilities. The award is the highest honor bestowed by the Burke Board of Trustees.

Honoree Jeffrey Menkes has been Burke’s President and CEO for more than five years. His accomplishments include establishing graduate medical education in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Burke. He has revitalized the campus with the creation of modern, beautifully designed facilities, including the Alice B. Harmon Patient Welcome Center and the Marsal Caregiver Center, the latter a key element of the Patient Experience Division that was created under his direction. Burke’s employee support program, Burke C.A.R.E.S., was established under his guidance to nurture the welfare of vital healthcare staff. One of his greatest impacts has been leading the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Menkes has helped shape the landscape of healthcare in the New York metropolitan region. His vast experience has included leadership in some of the most prestigious hospitals and healthcare systems in the area. He has been part of the Montefiore Health System for 10 years and was instrumental in bringing Burke into the Montefiore system.

The Burke Award dinner is Burke’s signature event and largest fundraiser of the year, bringing together community and business leaders from the Greater New York City area and beyond. Proceeds from the event will support the development of critical new initiatives and the expansion of services and programs in rehabilitation medicine.
