After 65 Years of Plastic Disposable Diapers, Change Is Putting Babies Back in Cotton

OSSINING, N.Y.

Everyone’s Earth, the company behind Cobi, today launched Change Diapers, a cotton disposable diaper made with biodegradable components and the world’s first and only biodegradable Super Absorbent Polymer, where only 100% cotton touches your baby and you. It is available now at www.changediapers.com.

The problem: Since 1961, every disposable diaper has been made of plastic. It takes one cup of crude oil to make a single diaper, plus a cocktail of legacy chemicals including phthalates and BPA that sit against a baby’s skin 24 hours a day. In 1982, the industry added a Super Absorbent Polymer made from petroleum, which carries a monomer residue. The CDC recognizes it as a significant skin irritant, causing dermatitis.

The result is diaper rash; the number one reason pediatricians’ offices get calls. Plastic does not breathe and becomes a breeding ground for yeast and bacteria sitting on your baby 24 hours a day. This can cause skin temperature to run up to eight degrees hotter. The skin becomes inflamed, and that is the rash. When the diaper is full and the baby sits down, the residue from the monomer comes back onto the skin. Up to seven out of ten babies get diaper rash.

The solution: Change Diapers replaces both. It’s made with biodegradable components, and only 100% cotton touches the baby and the parent. The absorbent beads inside are the world’s first and only biodegradable Super Absorbent Polymer, not made from fossil fuels, with no monomer residue. Whatever comes back against the skin is a complex sugar. Change is built to help stop diaper rash at the source.

It performs as well as, if not better than, a traditional plastic diaper. The industry measures a diaper on strike-through (how fast wetness leaves the skin) and re-wet (how much comes back when the diaper is full and the baby sits on it). Change Diapers competitively equals the best in the industry.

“For 65 years, convenience has come at the expense of our children’s well-being,” said Tom Kallish, founder of Everyone’s Earth. “Until now, parents had no real alternative. Now they do. Why take the risk? Make the change.”

Change Diapers contain no fossil-fuel plastic, no phthalates, BPA, or its cousins, no fragrances, lotions, or dyes, and no chlorine bleach. It is pediatrician-endorsed by the Change Pediatric Team.

About Everyone’s Earth:
Everyone’s Earth is a U.S.-based consumer products company working to eliminate plastic and fossil-fuel materials from everyday products, and to prove the clean version performs as well or better than what it replaces. It started in the laundry room with Cobi cotton dryer sheets and laundry buds. It is now in the nursery. www.everyonesearth.com
