A Community Conversation with The Mental Health Association of Westchester
Identifying and finding appropriate solutions to your child’s educational needs can be a challenging journey. Join us this Fall as we discuss New York State Education Law, explore rights as a parent and hear firsthand from parents who have successfully advocated for the behavioral health needs of their children in a school setting. Resources for advocacy support will be provided.

Michael Gilberg
Special Education Attorney & Autistic Self-Advocate
Michael devotes his legal career to representing chidden with disabilities to ensure they get the appropriate education that they are entitled to under the law, which he was denied as a child. He serves on numerous Boards and Committees and has government policy advocacy experience in New York State and Westchester County.
Ruthanne Becker, MA
Senior Vice-President of Rehabilitation Services at MHA & Parent Advocate
Ruthanne is an experienced and innovative human services executive manager and the mother of two children who received special education services due to a variety of developmental, learning and mental health issues. Her family has been on a journey of recovery for many years which has impacted and shaped both her professional and personal life.
Lawrence Savell
Lawyer & Parent Advocate
Lawrence is a lawyer with more than 40 years of experience and has been a vigorous and persistent advocate for one of his children, who has received special education services due to a variety of diagnosed developmental, learning, and mental health issues. He has retained, consulted with, and developed submissions from evaluative, medical, and legal professionals to support efforts to mainstream his child’s education.
