2017 Wartburg Fall Festival

Wartburg, a premier senior residential and healthcare care provider, recently hosted its annual Fall Festival on their 34-acre campus. This year’s event drew over 800 people. Founded in 1866, Wartburg’s legacy dates back to the days of caring for children orphaned after the Civil War and caring for seniors since 1897.

The event featured live entertainment throughout the day, a children’s area with a bouncy castle, obstacles course and games (sponsored by Backyard Sports Cares, a mentoring organization through sports for underprivileged children, and Talon Athletics), shopping, face painting, caricatures and an art exhibition hosted by Got Art?, Inc. In addition, Wartburg hosted a Wartburg Orphans’ Farm School reunion, welcoming nearly 30 Wartburg alumni back home. Internet-based radio station, Westchester Talk Radio, broadcasted from the festival. The Mount Vernon Fire Department provided an opportunity for attendees to learn fire safety in their “Smokehouse” and the Mount Vernon Police Department brought “Otis,” a German Shepherd in the K-9 unit.

In addition to the various food vendors there was also a Farmer’s Market sponsored by Morrison Community Living. To quench the adult thirst of attendees, Half Time provided a Beer Bar while Apricots & Honey hosted a wine tasting.

Attendees were entertained throughout the day with sound of steel drums by Peter Salomon & the Island Magic Band, lively lessons of various dances by Cynthia Dixon & The Soul Latin Line Dancers and the soulful sounds of the Mount Vernon Interfaith Community Choir.
