Bard College Stevenson Library – Renovate to Geothermal Heating & Cooling
OLA Consulting Engineers
Conversion of an existing 57,500 SF building with an outdated oil-fired heating system into a state-of-the-art geothermal system. This Design Build project teamed OLA (Valhalla NY) with turnkey provider Brightcore Energy (Armonk NY), to assist Bard to perform a retrofit eliminating 14,000 gallons of oil usage and eliminates CO2 emissions by 127 tons. The new HVAC system includes 50 closed-loop geothermal wells, 160-ton modular water-source heat pump, 84 new fan coils, along with improved ventilation using an energy recovery ventilator. This project reduced gas emissions by 64% and site energy use by 38%.
